Marshgate Lane provides an important north south road connection through the Park adjacent the London Stadium and past a junior and a senior school. There are wide footways to provide large crowd access to the London Stadium. In future, the new residential neighbourhood of Sweetwater will be built west of Marshgate Lane bringing many more people to live in this area. This project will provide a high-quality cycle track connecting the two schools and Stadium to the wider cycling network. People living on Fish Island will have direct access to this route via the Stour Road bridge.

The new cycle track will be at pavement level; separate from road traffic giving students and families a safe and healthy route to school thereby embedding the habit of walking and cycling from a young age. Existing school zebra crossings will be upgraded to a parallel crossing and south of the River Lea bridge a new crossing will be created. The junction at Marshgate Lane and Sidings Street will have footway extended by reducing the kerb radii.

The project will be delivered in two phases, Phase 1 extends from Stour Road bridge to a new crossing south of the River Lea bridge. Phase 2 takes up from end of Phase 1, to the senior school. Past the senior school to Carpenter’s Road there will be advisory cycle lanes
