Carpenter's Road has recently been reopened as part of the East Bank, Stratford Waterfront Development in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The project provides spacious pavements on one side of the road and a dedicated off-carriageway cycle track on the railway side. To connect the route through to Hackney Wick we are preparing proposals to improve the stretch that continues north-west from the River Lea bridge to White Post Lane Bridge.

The project is pivotal to the provision of safe routes in the area, especially for cycling on one of the busiest roads in the Park, and seeks to contribute to an improved pedestrian and cycle environment that forms a segment of the wider Carpenters Road route connecting Hackney Wick in the west to Carpenter's Estate in the south and onwards towards High Street Stratford.

Carpenters Road spans emerging neighbourhoods Stratford Waterfront and East Wick and Sweetwater and is working with these developments to provide the best pedestrian and cycle provision possible, especially while construction work is still ongoing. It is envisaged that the project in its current form will provide improved routes now with the potential that the route will be improved further as surrounding developments near completion.
